The Nox Anthology - Dark Poets Against Abuse
Light out of Darkness
The benefit collection of the works of Dark Poets continues...
All contributors to this and the preceding pages have agreed that in lieu of direct payment for their work, a
regular donation will be made to CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse), a safe haven organization for
women and children trying to free themselves from abusive environments.  With the gift of their words,
these creators form a community of caring poets, speaking out in their powerful voices against violence in
our society.
Distortion
by Moonfyre

distorted views of reality
swim across jaded eyes
the sky opens and hell falls down
crushing sanity
scrambling perception

surface of distortion grows
panic grows in anxious minds
the earth cracks and terror climbs out
swallowing thought
destroying reason

fragments of certainty crumble
blowing into clouded thoughts
the wind blows and pain seeps in
overwhelming senses
devastating psyche

then come the screams
and all is silent

Fine Line
by Moonfyre

A fine line
Separates obsession
From desire
Acceptable attention
From unwelcome

Love can only be
When that line
Is never crossed
When the desire
Is always welcomed
From both sides

The taint of obsession
Sullies love into
A fearful place
Changes romance
To terror

This Pain
by Moonfyre

This pain
Brings tears to my eyes from deep in my gut
I have never felt anything like it
And the horror of it
Demands I push it aside
I cannot look at it
I cannot allow those tears to spill
What if they never stop?
They tear through my chest
And rip apart my throat
I choke them back
Distract myself by writing words
Try with powerless determination
To stem the outbreak of them
A single tear
Escapes
And I begin to win the battle
The pain subsides,
Sinking back into the quagmire
To the realm that I forcefully forget
As the tear dries on my face
Leaving behind in its wake
The deepening ache
And empty numbness that I cannot
Figure out how to  quell
Or what to do with
This pain

Police Winter Day
by Mykel

Sun-sparkled
Single and frozen
A tear upon her face
Head pillowed
by the  pristine snow
Body curled
under its frigid blanket
We, chosen by fate
to chip her from
this icy, shallow grave
We gasp, we choke,
we curse, we cry
We shake our heads
We wonder why...
this morbid winter
has no conscience
Sun-sparkled
Single and frozen
...one drop
of mourning, no doubt
for her unborn

A Crack
by Mykel

There was a crack in the
canvas
When they began to  paint my
life
A flaw
...they thought
....I suppose
As they tried to paint around
it
Handing me the brush
They said as much
In fading voices...
As I painted its  beauty
Into my existence
