America the Great

My heart is heavy from witnessing all the hate
From my own country men in America the Great
What have our children become in the Land of the Free
When they use the word of God to justify tyranny
As soon as depression threatens and knocks at our door
So many Americans forget who we are and what we stand for
We were built by great fathers and mothers alike
So we would not know persecution in the dark of the night
And our Fathers made sure we could worship in peace
Christian or not we are free we are free we are free to be
But the wind has changed and the air tinged with fear
And this threatens my beloved country that I hold so dear
America a beacon to the world and a beautiful song
Many said we would implode please let us prove them wrong
America made me and I know - others feel the same
Stand up to be counted to end fear’s destructive reign
Open your hearts and open your minds
So we may polish Liberty’s torch so better she shines
We shall not be moved and we shall over come
Let us embrace the words of King and let a new song be sung
So we may have to learn to live like Great Grandma and Dad
Pull in our belts share our loaf of bread
We were built by pilgrims, pioneer stock, slaves and native sons
We shall over come together we shall over come
Remember the words united we stand divided we fall
Written in crimson blood this message for all
Brothers and Sisters together we can see a better dawn
So stop the fear and please please please stop the hate
Because we are America we are America America the Great
